Requirements for Base

Site Preparation for Your Shed

Suitable foundations

Our sheds are strong, durable and heavy. They need to be installed on flat and solid ground.

Suitable bases include:

  • A concrete pad
  • Paving Stones
  • Pavers
  • Bricks
  • Well laid and solid tiles

Our sheds cannot be built on lawn, soil or sand. The shed may subside unevenly, twist and become damaged.

Accommodating Slopes

We build our sheds to stand on adjustable feet. This keeps the timber insulated from wet ground to prevent it from rotting. These feet also allow us to accommodate a small fall of the type that might be required for good drainage. If the fall between the highest and lowest point of your shed is less than 3cm, then this can be accommodated without any additional work.

If your shed is to be placed on ground with a fall of greater than 3cm from the highest to the lowest point, we will need to build a plinth and supply skirting to hide the structure and the gap. Please make sure we know about this when you place the order so that we can design and build fit for your site.

What Size Base Do I Need?

The size of the base depends on the model and size of the unit. For bespoke units, please ask us. For standard units, please consult the technical specifications documents:

When thinking about your base, don't forget that the lid is larger than the footprint of the unit and will determine how close to adjacent walls you can place the shed. The lid dimensions are also listed in the documents listed above.
